Pottery using the Potter's Wheel - for Adults This course is an introduction to the potter's wheel for beginners with little or no experience at wheel throwing. Working with Porcelain
This class is design for individuals with some clay experience that are interested in using porcelain. Explore decorating techniques with cone 6 porcelain.

Wood Firing Class This class is designed for any individual that is interested in learning about firing a kiln with wood.
All skill levels are welcome. There will be 3 work days to produce pieces for the firing. The 4th day will be used to glaze and decorate the work. The 5th class will consist of loading the kiln. The next class will be FIRING and the last class will be unloading.

Glass Blowing :: June 6 Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm Glasslight Studio, Saint Peters, PA Instructor: Joel Bless $198 [members pay $180] Work with molten glass! In this fast-paced and friendly course, students will learn to 'gather' glass and create solid forms with an emphasis on safety. Joel Bless and fellow glassblowers begin each class with a brief lecture on safety and a discussion of mechanics and materials. Next is a demonstration of hot-glass techniques students will be using during the day, and then the students start making their own glass pieces. Students work one-on-one with instructors learning how to gather, marver, blow, shape, color, and finish a punteed piece. Giving each student several chances to blow glass, the class allows the students to experience the basics and begin to play with form and color for an unforgettable experience. Each student will have the opportunity to make three pieces. Work can be picked up in three days after the class or affordable shipping is available for students coming a distance.
Hand-created Open Weave :: June 13 Saturday: 9 am to 4:30 pm 252 N. Prince St, Lancaster, PA Instructor: Susan Weaver $80 [members pay $72] Using a portable hand-loom, students have fun exploring a variety of open weave patterna, such as Danish Medallion and Brooks Bouquet. They make lovely, open, airy wall hangings, or interesting borders on hand-woven fabric. None of these techniques can be duplicated by machines, so they are truly one-of-a-kind weavings. This workshop will involve the design and creation of pendants. Pendants can be casual or dressy, large or small, chunky or delicate. They can be made using a wide range of techniques and can be hung on anything from a chain, to a beaded necklace or a ribbon. Marbles (Borosilicate) :: June 27 Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm 560 S. Prince St, Lancaster, PA Instructor: Jason Ryner $150 [members pay $135] This is a one-day marble class. All you need to bring is your creativity. No experience necessary. Come and learn the art of making borosilicate marbles on a minor bench burner. Jason Ryner will cover everything from gathering the right amount of glass, controling the punty, making the marble round and working with graphite molds. Additional techniques and styles of marbles will be covered. The class will also cover the proper use of borosilicate colors. Some experience necessary.
Slip Cast Tile-making :: June 27 Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm Gallery School of Pottstown, Pottstown, PA Instructor: Lisa Muller $95 [members pay $86] Slip casting tile is an alternative to press molding. The molds for the two techniques are similar, so why slip cast? In this one day workshop we will discover how slip casting tile works and why it may be the right vehicle for your tile imagery or work style. Basics of carving an original and casting an open face mold in plaster will be covered. Students will begin the day working directly in clay to produce a castable image, then view a demonstration of casting. We will review imagery of finished tiles and discuss earthenware temperature glazes, engobes and how to increase surface interest. Each individuals' finish work and casting will be continued outside the workshop.
Broken Chair Repair :: June 27 Saturday: 10 am to 3 pm Guild Offices, 252 N. Prince St, Lancaster Instructor: David Lunin $45 [members pay $40] No skill or experience necessary, just a rickety old chair. Students that attend this hands-on class will learn the principles and techniques needed to repair almost any chair. All are encouraged to bring along a chair in need of repair as well as a hammer to knock it apart. While we can't guarantee that every chair will leave the session completely repaired, everyone should leave with the confidence to finish the job at home and take on all of their other rickety chairs. Save money by giving your old furniture new life. The instructor is a skilled furniture maker with almost two decades experience repairing and restoring antiques.
Basic Feltmaking :: July 18 Saturday: 10 am to 5 pm Room 230, Millersville University, Millersville (Lancaster County) Instructor: Jeri Robsinson-Lawrence $72* [members pay $65] In this one-day workshop participants will learn the basics of both wet felting and needle felting with wool. These processes will form the foundation for the creation of two pieces completed during the workshop to adorn the body. Two-Dimensional and Three-dimensional techniques will be demonstrated. Innovative Prong solutions for setting Titanium (Metal Clay) :: August 8 Saturday: 9 am to 6 pm York Town Craft Guild, York, PA Instructor: Holly Gage $170* [members pay $155*] Free-formed rainbow Titanium can be very intriguing. It is bright, colorful, and sculptural. Against the bright shine of silver it certainly has the "bling" factor. One method for setting Titanium is by making your own hand built prongs. Our exploratory trip will highlight innovative handmade prongs solutions; proper placement and structural consideration for the prongs; basics do's and don'ts of prong making; as well learning how to design with shrinkage in mind. Exquisite Designs Pendant (Metal Clay) :: August 9 Sunday: 9 am to 5 pm York Town Craft Guild, York, PA Instructor: Holly Gage $170* [members pay $155*] Holly Gage will share her secrets in transforming original photos or drawings into highly detailed, low relief images looking similar in style to traditional repoussé. Students will learn to wet-work a reverse polymer mold of their image; manipulate the clay and use tools to create different hand-wrought textural effects; and to carve details for the finishing touch. Handbuilding with a Twist :: August 15 Saturday: 10 am to 5 pm Kevin Lehman Pottery, Lancaster, PA Instructor: Mary Ellen Yearick $66* [members pay $60*] Get prepared for a FUN day playing with clay! We'll be making lots of "wall pockets" to fill with fresh flowers, some sconces, and perhaps a vase, or two....all created with only hand tools, and a great amount of ingenuity. Mary Ellen Yearick will lead this fun, relaxed and fast-paced introduction to clay handbuilding. All levels welcome (beginner to advanced). There will be tips that established potters can add to their skill set. *$10 material fee will be collected for the clay. Wood Turning Basics :: September 5 & 6 Sat, Sept 5: 9 am to 6 pm and Sun, Sept 6: 9 am to 4 pmWoodshop, Goggleworks Center for the Arts, Reading Instructor: Ed Youtz $216* [members pay $195] With an emphasis on safety and wood turning principles, Ed Youtz teaches wood turning through demonstration and individual attention. On Saturday, you will use a spindle-roughing gauge, parting tool, skew, and spindle gauge. After practice you'll design and turn a dry flower arrangement holder, an end-grain cup, and a lidded box. On Sunday, you will use a bowl gauge and scrapers to design and make plates and bowls. Each student will have the use of a lathe, tools, and face shield. Ed Youtz is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild who has been turning for a decade. At the end of the weekend, students should be able to safely turn spindles, plates, and bowls on their own. Managing Mud: Mugs & Bowls for Intermediate Potters :: September 19 Sat: 10 am to 5 pm York Town Craft Guild, York Instructor: Pam Cummings $88* [members pay $80] Pam Cummings' favorite mugs and bowls are those that have mature traits: love handles, bulging hips, confident feet, intentional surface markings that tell the story of the clay's journey.
